When travelling with your children, one of the most important jobs you have as a parent is to keep you child safe, especially when driving. Choosing the right child seat depends on several variables including the size and age of your child and the type of vehicle you own.

Infants should always be rear-facing until they are at least one year of age and weight at least 20 pounds.

Toddlers and preschool age children should ride in convertible seats facing the rear or forward-facing convertible seats. You should purchase infant-only seats that can be used as rear-facing and then converted into forward-facing children as the child gets older. These types of child seats are usually heavier and bulkier.

School-aged children who have outgrown their normal forward-facing car safety seat should use a booster seat until they can fit adult belts correctly, which usually happens when a child reaches 4’9″ in height and is between 8 and 12 years old.
