10 Tips to Sleep Better With Tinnitus

Sleep deprivation is a wide-spread epidemic. You would be amazed at the numbers of people who cite tinnitus as the cause of their insomnia. Most sufferers simply get into bed and struggle with tinnitus all night instead of gettimg some sleep. Many people end up with other health problems due to tinnitus sleep loss, so getting a handle on a way to get some sleep despite the noises that only you can hear is important.

Follow these ten tips to get a good night’s sleep, despite the tinnitus noises:

1. Try deeply relaxing when you lie down to go to sleep. Ensure that your bedroom is very dark and and think of tranquil, relaxing places. Picturing yourself lying on a beach on a beautiful beach listening to the gentle waves lapping at the shore. It is entirely possible that before you even have any inkling of going to sleep, you wake next morning feeling refreshed and alert.

2. Invest in a high quality white noise generator or some good quality white noise CDs. Place a CD player close to the headboard of your bed and select your favorite white noise CD By doing this you will be able to forget about the tinnitus for a while as your brain will be concentrating on the white noise being produced thus allowing you to easily fall asleep.

3. If a sound generator isn’t for you, try to place a fan in your room at night or an air purifier. Both of these produce a repetitive white noise that will help to lull you to sleep.

4. Make it a rule to think your problems through and make proper decisions before retiring for the night. That way there is nothing lefty to stress about when you get into bed. It will certainly not help your tinnitus cause if you are suffering from sleep deprivation, in fact it is gauaranteed to make it far worse!

5. Make sure that you get plenty of physical exercise every day so that when bedtime arrives your body actually needs the rest and the tinnitus will not be that much of a factor any longer.

6. Many people use natural sleep aids that are not in any harmful or addictive. Perhaps you can try one of these. If a natural sleep aid doesn’t work for you, talk to your doctor about a prescription sleep aid that will work for you.

7. Make changes in your diet that will help you to not only sleep better at night, but may also relieve the sounds of tinnitus. Reduce your intake of salt and caffeine. Anything that increases the tinnitus levels should be avoided and salt is known to raise the blood pressure levels which will aggravate your tinnitus. Caffeine is a stimulant and will increase your heart rate, thus allowing the sounds of tinnitus to get louder due to a change in blood flow while the stimulant also keeps you awake.

8. Take a long, hot bath before getting into bed at night.
