Chlorine is Not Needed to a Clean Pool

Aside from using pool chlorine products there are several other ways to maintain your pool.

Many people do not like the toxicity and odor of water treated with chlorine and prefer other methods to keep their pool safe.   Heavy use of strong chemicals on a regular basis is not environmentally friendly.  A non-chlorinated pool feels and tastes better to a lot of people.

Salt Generators

Chlorine is created by a salt generator that transforms a tiny bit of added salt in the pool.  No chlorine needs to be habitually added.  A treatment with chlorine of other oxidizing chemical will be needed if the pool becomes contaminated. The pool water needs to be checked regularly because with salt generators the ph tends to get high. Decrease the ph with muriatic acid.

Bromine is more expensive than chlorine and needs to be added more often because it burns off quickly in sunlight but it is nice for sensitive skin and has no bad smell.    Chlorine becomes deactivated when it mixes with harmful contaminants where as bromine continues to work.

Ozone

Ozone, a form of oxygen which is active, reacts with contaminants.  Like chlorine, ozone gas, when dissolved in water, combines with impurities and oxidizes them.  They are easily detached from filters because it makes them join together.  Chlorine use can be reduced by 60% to 90%.

Copper and Silver

That copper kills algae and silver kills bacteria and viruses is well known.   They have been used for water sanitization for a long time.  After ionization by a very small amount of electricity copper and silver react with the pollutants in the water destroying them.

For easier removal from the filter the bacteria and algae adhere together.  You will still need to regularly shock the pool with swimming pool chlorine granules or a non-chlorine oxidizer but regular chlorine usage will be greatly reduced.

Summary

Many people are tired of continually fighting algae, swimming on a regular basis in harsh chemicals, and paying for the amount of swimming pool chemicals needed to keep the swimming pool clean so they turn to alternate pool sanitizers. Do You Like the Snow in Sussex, or Maybe Prefer a Safari in Kenya – You Choose

The first snow of winter 2009 has finally arrived!  Even on the South Coast where it’s quite unusual to get more than a few snow flurries, the snow has already started to settle.  The kids are all excited because it could mean the end of the school term a few days early!  Of course it’s not just the children who enjoy the snow.  Even though I am nearing my mid 40′s, I still love the first snowfall of winter.

If only it could have held off just one more week though and then we could have had a white Christmas.  Call me soppy, but I still get a real tingle at the thought of drawing the curtains back on Christmas morning and seeing that we have had a heavy snowfall during the night and everywhere has that magical feeling about it.

The reality is that we will probably get rain and it will be blowing a gale and totally miserable.  Mind you that means I can get our coal fire stoked up and enjoy a cosy afternoon sitting in the lounge watching Eastenders and Coronation Street.

Oh the wonders of Christmas, it doesn’t get much better than this does it?

Well as it happens it does.  I’ve already picked up quite a few travel brochures and I am going to be going through them to see where I can book my next holiday.

I have such a selection, Safari Holidays, Kenya Holidays, Florida Holidays, Las Vegas holidays, you name the destination, I probably have the brochure.

I really enjoy looking through travel brochures to see what sort of trip I can plan next and what sort of accommodation to book.  Some of the hotels are so plush that you can choose to book an all inclusive deal.  At the other end of the spectrum, you could choose to book something completely different and spend your nights in a tent gazing up at the beautiful clear sky.  From a personal point of view I enjoy my creature comforts a little too much, so much as the night sky may be stunning, I would prefer to be looking at my hotel ceiling.

It doesn’t matter where I go on holiday, I know I will have a brilliant time and enjoy new adventures.
