The beautiful island of Lanzarote in the Canaries is well known for its incredible volcanic landscapes and breathtaking coastlines. In addition to the stunning natural beauty, visitors to the island can choose from an array of Lanzarote hotels, restaurants, and clubs. Since the island is designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve protected site, there are numerous restrictions on the style and amount of development on the island. This has meant that high-rise buildings have been banned as have features such as billboard advertising. As a result, many Lanzarote hotels and villas tend to be more natural developments with enhanced privacy. In fact, many of the hotels offer so many amenities and such beautiful beaches that some visitors decide not to leave their resort. If you do decide to venture out, however, there are plenty of sights worth seeing.

Timanfaya National Park

Lanzarote’s Montañas del Fuego – or Fire Mountains – give this region of the island an almost martian look since the landscape is barren and desert-like. The mountains were created by volcanic eruptions in the 18th and 19th centuries that impacted this part of the island. Rare plant species abound in this area and you can take a guided tour of the park or even ride a camel across the landscape.

Jameos del Agua

Created by a volcanic eruption which took place over three thousand years ago, these caves have been turned into an underground complex, with a swimming pool, auditorium, restaurants, and gardens that have been designed to complement the natural look of the surrounding caves.

Lanzarote Aquarium

Get up close and personal with the sea life of the Canary Islands in this large, interactive aquarium. Visitors can see many creatures native to the island chain including warm water sharks and can interact with some of the creatures in the three touching-pools.

Castillo de San Jose

Originally built in 1799 to help protect the island from pirate attacks, this fortress has been turned into a modern art gallery and restaurant where you can enjoy beautiful views of the harbour.

With so many sights on offer, alongside the many restaurants, bars, shops and cheap hotels, your island holiday experience is guarenteed to be one to remember.

The popular Canary Islands archipelago is located off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic and is home to the beautiful island of Tenerife. The beauty starts at the heart of the island with Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain and third largest volcano in the world, and then extends out through the forests to the stunning coastlines. A favourable sub-tropical climate allows Tenerife to offer a full range of exotic flora and fauna. The island has plenty to keep tourists comfortable in the shape of its many hotels, bars and restaurants as well as activities suitable for all ages.

When you’ve decided on Tenerife as your next island paradise destination, the next step is to find accommodation. You can choose between hotels of all levels and price ranges, hostels, apartments, and cottages. The island has everything from 5-star luxury resorts to smaller hotels with fewer amenities for those vacationing on a tighter budget – however, almost all of the hotels in Tenerife have a swimming pool and restaurant, plus telephones and televisions in each room, as well as air-conditioning.

A number of the hotels in Tenerife have their own luxury spas onsite, offering more to help you relax on your holiday than just beaches and ocean alone.  One example is the Abama Golf and Spa|One such hotel is the Abama Golf and Spa. This luxury 5 star resort describes itself as a “paradise of sensations”. It is on the west coast of Tenerife in the Guia de Isora. There are several room and suite options, including rooms with balconies in the Citadel or suites with their own private terraces in the Villa. The hotel itself is located at the top of a cliff with breathtaking views of the ocean. Enjoy relaxing on the Abama’s secluded beach.

The Playa del Camison – sometimes referred to as an “oasis of sophistication”, offers an elite collection of luxury hotels in Tenerife. The names alone – from Sir Anthony Palace and Cleopatra Palace to Mediterranean Palace – exude luxury and class.

This particular collection of hotels may fall outside the average budget for a holiday, but happily there are plenty of more affordable options to choose from. The Tamaimo Tropical, for example, is an aparthotel with fully equipped kitchens, 2 pools for adults and two for the kids, an onsite buffet restaurant, and prices that are likely to be more family-friendly. There are plenty of other hotels in Tenerife just like this one so you won’t go short of options, whatever your situation or your finances may be.

More flights make Lanzarote even more accessible to holidaymakers

With the launch of new Aer Lingus flights to the popular Canary Island of Lanzarote, it’s the perfect time for an sunny getaway. The brilliant Lanzarote sunshine and mild climate make it an ideal island getaway any time of the year, but perfect if you want to escape the not-so-sunny British seasons. As of October 25th 2009, the well known airline has started running flights between Gatwick and Lanzarote’s Arrecife airport three days a week, making year-round sunshine, stunning scenery and cheap Lanzarote hotels even more accessible than before.

The new route announcement follows news earlier in the year that the Spanish government will be offering discounts on airport taxes to airlines meeting certain criteria when flying to Spanish destinations. This is the government’s latest attempt to boost tourism, both on the mainland and surrounding islands, and there is the hope it will encourage other airlines to introduce new flights to the popular holiday spots. The tourism in Lanzarote, like many other European destinations, was hit hard last year after the turbulent down turn in the economy. Its airport saw a reduction of 3.3% in December 2008 compared with the same time the previous year, which raised concerns about the health of local tourism.

The news of the new route between London and Lanzarote will make the popular hotspot, even more trendy. Holidaymakers will receive the news equally as well, as it offers an affordable yet by no means boring getaway. Prices for the new routes start from £34.99, one way. There are several options on cheap Lanzarote hotels, depending on your preferences. A bungalow for two in a four star resort, for example, costs as little as £14 per person per night this October, while all-inclusive hotels in Lanzarote can be found for around £27. With fantastic deals both on transport and accommodation, an autumn break is both affordable and accessible.
