Although Ibiza is a small island, getting to the most remote, and best beaches on its craggy coastline can be tricky. Its really hot in the daytime during summer so you won’t wnt to be walking to beaches and public transport is often hard to use. Renting a car is the best way to see hidden parts of the island. Here are some of the islands best beaches to visit by car.
Best beaches on the east coast
If you’re based in Ibiza Town or Playa Bossa you’ve got some great beaches just a short drive up the coast. Santa Eulalia, just north of Ibiza Town, is a great place to start,. From there a little further north you’ll hit the secluded nudist beach at Aguas Blancas.
Best beaches to visit on the west coast of Ibiza
If you’re staying in the ever popular holiday resorts of San Antonio or the neighbouring San Antonio Bay area you’ll no doubt have beaches a short walk from your hotel doorstep, although these are some of Ibiza’s least attractive and most over populated spots. Get in your car and drive 15 minutes south to the southern coast of Ibiza. From there you’ve got access to a stretch of great, unique beaches which you can beach hop along all day or choose your favourite and stay there. Start at Cala Vadella, then Cala d’Hor and the ever popular Cala Jondal. Finally join in with the nudists at Es Cavallet beach on the far east of the south coast.
More things to see
While you’ve got your car for the day you can do lots more than just visit beaches. Why not explore some of the less tourist inhabited villages of the north of Ibiza or some of the stunning countryside in the north east. You could visit one of the great flea markets or the unique hippy market near to Es Cana each Wednesday during the summer months.
Ibiza is easy for nervous driver
If you’re worried about taking out car rental in Ibiza by the though of driving on ‘the other side of the road’ or the thought of maneuvering through unknown towns you’ll probably be surprised how easy Ibiza’s road system is to drive and navigate around. Most rental cars are have automatic transmission. The new highway makes it faster than ever to get from one side of the island to the other and once you get out of town you’ll see little traffic. Probably the trickiest part of driving in Ibiza is parking in the often hap-hazard beach front car parks where pretty much anything goes when it comes to finding a space during busy times.
Where in Ibiza to rent your car
In Ibiza airport rent a carproviders are generally over subscribed during the summer months. At times there’s just not enough cars on the island so book as early as possible and don’t wait until you get to the airport. All of the major global car rental brands can be found at Evissa airport, or you can rent from smaller local companies who will usually offer a cheaper rate- although you might need to be more flexible with your vehicle choice.
