If you’re searching for the perfect location to spend your honeymoon, I would strongly recommend Mauritius. Having just got back home, I can honestly say that it was a brilliant decision , and one that we definitely wouldn’t have made without it being recommended to us by friends .
Picking a destination is hard , and I was going to leave it to my wife, as my only specification was that it be hot . But after hearing that she wished to go to Mauritius, I must admit that I was slightly apprehensive – purely for the reason that I knew very little about Mauritius, and had presumed that we would be going somewhere in the Caribbean.
Anyway, after some deliberation (on my part) we made the decision to book our honeymoon in Mauritius. We discovered an internet travel agent and managed to find an all inclusive Mauritius holiday for a very affordable price. The only snag was that we were not sure what the hotel was going to be like (because it was a new build ) but once we’d arrived any anxieties we had quickly vanished – the hotel was magnificent !
Mauritius holidays are becoming more and more popular; this is most likely to do with the price as much as anything – it is much less expensive than it once was . But the price – in terms of what you get for your money – is extremely cheap . The climate is beautiful , the wildlife is exotic , the people are welcoming , and the service and accommodation cannot be beaten .
During the honeymoon I was happy to relax by the beach the whole honeymoon, but my wife being my wife decided that she must see the sights , and experience some of the culture – which, at first, I thought was code words for shoes and shopping ! So she dragged me along with her on the promise that I could eat as much ice cream as my body could physically handle . Half expecting my credit card to be kidnapped and abused , I made sure that we stopped and looked at anything that looked as if it may have a bit of history or culture attached to it … I probably took this too far when I tried ( and failed) to pass off the public toilets as a magnificent work of architecture ! Anyway, I can honestly say that I’m glad my wife did drag me along because Mauritius is a stunning country with a diverse culture… and they speak English! – Although the papers and news are all in French! Mauritius has an abundance of dramatic forests and mountains , breathtaking coral reefs and beaches , and is home to one of the most famous surfing spots – Tamann Bay. It was also home to the now famous but unfortunately extinct dodo bird . The cuisine is a mixture of all the various cultures, so there is something for all .
