Video of beach and estuary at Alnmouth

It is impossible to miss seeing Alnmouth as you drive along the coast road or pass on the railway and it is quite a scene.  Green meadows and ripe corn fields flow down to its broad river estuary, the other side of which lies a cheery terrace of colourful painted Victorian cottages. The settlement of Alnmouth forms a barrier from the sea allowing to river flowing behind it to act as a natural harbour for local sailing and fishing boats. Bordered by sky and sea, the colours of the village houses are often seen against their striking blue background.Regardless of the time of year most people agree that it is quite a view.  Legend has it that when Queen Victoria was on her way to Balmoral she would have the engine driver slow down the train when they reached Alnmouth so she could enjoy the vista.
Alnmouth owes its almost unique geographic situation equally to the sea and the River Aln, as both have shaped the surrounding land leaving it sitting on a narrow peninsula of land parallel with the coastline. All that is great about the Northumbria coast is contained in the community of Alnmouth, which although not large enough for a town, is greater than a mere village.Unlike many seaside towns, Alnmouth has virtually no tacky architecture, just huge sandy beaches, , dunes and boats.   It only lacks its own castle but there are plenty of world-beating ones in very close proximity – Warkworth, Alnwick, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh to name but a few.  Add to this mix a handful of cosy pubs, couple of interesting shops and some eating places proudly serving local fresh produce and you have the recipe for a wonderful holiday or short break.
Great for visiting both Northumbria and Scotland, Alnmouth’s location by the sea makes it the perfect base for holidays in the North.  Alnwick with its world famous castle and gardens is just three miles away, where you will also find the amazing Barter Book Store in the old railway station. With so many books to choose from many people stay a while in the cosy ‘waiting room’ and reading whilst enjoying a fresh cup of coffee in front of the coal fire.

Holiday accommodation in Alnmouth is mainly B&Bs or self catering cottages, of which there are plenty but they are also pretty busy even in winter and so advance booking is advisable. Among the activities enjoyed by thrill seeking visitors are dinghy sailing, diving, surfing, kite surfing, kayaking, mountain, biking, shooting, salmon fishing and golf!

By car Alnmouth is five miles off the A1, it has its own station on the East Coast mainline railway and North sea ferries arrive from Norway & Holland into Newcastle, which also has its own airport.  Car hire is available at all these points of arrival.

The Island Hideaway of Bangaram island resort is some two hundred miles from Kerala to the south west of India in the Arabian Sea, and is an example of the Lakshadweep Islands. Routinely it is accessed by a flight from Cochin to Agatti, then onward by boat for a ninety minute ride. Getting onto the boat at Agatti is an experience in itself, as you get onto a raft, and then they tow you out to the boat!! You instantly feel this is a true hideaway holiday, and your tropical island resort is going to be slightly different. Take good advice and fly Kingfisher and not Indian Airlines for reliability.

It is the perfect romantic honeymoon getaway, a lush green empty island covered in coconut groves, and shaped like a teardrop. It is encircled by pristine white sand and a big lagoon, and is part of a coral atoll with another three islands, all of which can simply be reached form Bangaram, by outboarding, sailing or rowing, kayaking or windsurfing if you find the necessity to be energetic.

It is the way the way the Maldives were before mass tourism arrived, because the coral reefs are on fire with color and packed with fish because now they are comparatively unexplored.

If you need a tropical vacation on an island hideaway, or a romantic honeymoon getaway, then Bangaram could be your ideal destination or as an element of a package including time in the Kerala part of India.

You need to grasp this island hideaway, while good for a romantic honeymoon getaway, or for people who want to play at being castaways, it is not at all for folks attempting to find luxury. If you need the accoutrements of a five star resort, just don’t go.

Bangaram itself consists of 30 huts which includes a number of family sheds in twin/double cottages. There are no televisions, telephones or air-conditioning, and to complete the island getaway feeling there are no papers so you will be fully out of effective contact with the strains of the modern world. Each hut is tiled, on the beach, and has a palm thatched veranda, ensuite lavatory, ceiling fan and a refrigerator. The accommodation is straightforward but comfy, but please note there’s no hot water!!

The epicentre of Bangaram Island resort is the restaurant shed that has been built around a central pole and made of bamboos and palm fronds. The food at the resort for lunch and dinner is a bit Indian, and a bit Continental, and terribly much seafood based. The food is with no exceptions outstanding.

Breakfast includes cereals, eggs, Indian dishes and a large amount of fresh fruit.

At night there is a barbecue on the beach, and the opportunity to eat outside overlooking the moon shining on the lagoon Bangaram Island resort is the last place where alcohol is permitted in the Lakshadweep Islands, and the beach bar is the centre of the evening activity. It serves beer and cocktails and will remain open till the guests have had enough!!.
