Spain is a brilliant country with a long history and thousands of cultural attractions. Here are a few tips for people trying to decide which ones they absolutely must see. Firstly, Barcelona. This beautiful city is full of cultural highlights. If arts your thing, check out the Picasso museum or, if you like sport, the FC Barcelona museum. Theres also many buildings designed by Gaudi, which are more than worth a tour. Go for a walk down the Ramblas and eat paella at La Barceloneta.

Madrid is the capital of Spain and the city and its surrounding areas are home to some great cultural treasures you really shouldnt miss. Try going on a day trip to close by Toledo: here you can see the imposing fortress of the Alcazar as well as the cathedral that took 250 years to build. Madrid is also where you can see Picassos Guernica at the Reina Sofia Museum as well as the Prado Museum, another top attraction. The Royal Palace is also worth visiting.

Seville may mostly be famous for its oranges, but its also a cultural treasure trove thats well worth a visit as part of your vacation to Spain. For those of you who like a drink occasionally, check out the sherry bodegas at Jerez. If you like horses, go and see them dance at the School of Equestrian Art. There are also the brilliantly interesting Roman ruins of Italica at Santiponce. Another highlight of Seville is the flamenco dancing on offer at many of the citys fantastic tablaos.

Granada is another fantastic bit of Spain to visit and a cultural highlight here includes the Alhambra Palace. This is a Moorish fortified palace and the grounds occupy a large part of the city. Its considered to be one of the greatest representations of Islamic art and architecture. Also in Granada, you can go skiing in winter in the Sierra Nevada. You could also check out the tiny streets of the Moorish Albaicin or visit the International Festival of Music and Dance.

Northern Spain is also great. Earlier, we mentioned Picassos Guernica. Well, you can see the real place in the North. It was heavily bombed by the Nazis in WW2 and is great for an educational trip. You can also visit the Pyrenees if you fancy going on a walking tour or, if driving is more your thing, motor along the Basque coast west of San Sebastian. For the daredevils out there, run the bulls at Pamplona in July or for a quieter time, check out the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
