One of the most popular vacation destinations in the U.S. is Yosemite National Park. Its abundant waterfalls, granite cliffs, and wildflower meadows come together to form a utopia unlike anywhere else. The park is a vast landscape with a lot to see and do. With so many things to see, do and choose from, it is important that you do adequate planing around your Yosemite vacation.

Major Yosemite vacation sights include the Tuolumne Meadows, which has the alpine Tenaya Lake and Soda Springs. Near the south gate entrance to the park, the Mariposa Grove is a must see with it’s large grove of Sequoia trees. Glacier Point is a famous lookout with a breathtaking view of Half Dome and the Yosemite Valley below.

Yosemite vacations can serve up all the adventure and recreation you can handle. There are hundreds of miles of trails to backpack and hike. In the winter, people like to cross-country ski and snowshoe through the park. The rest of the year, visitors enjoy water sports on one of Yosemite’s rivers and lakes.

Happy Isles is a major attraction at the park. There you’ll find the trailhead to the Vernal and Nevada waterfalls, which can only be reached on foot. Happy Isles is also the home to the Yosemite Valley Nature Center. Tucked away in the Sierra Mountains of Yosemite Park, the tranquil Mountain Lake rests quietly in the shadows of the Sierras near Tenaya Creek Trail.

By far the most popular area in the park is the Yosemite Valley, where you will find many of Yosemite’s most popular lodges including the Ahwahnee Hotel, the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, and Curry Village. The busiest season for Yosemite Park is the summer months between June and August. Yosemite is a few hours drive from San Francisco and Los Angeles. Yosemite Park attracts nearly four million visitors every year. If you are the type of vacationer that likes to avoid crowds, you might consider planning your Yosemite vacation more in the late fall, early spring or winter time. Yosemite Park is open all year, but visitation drops way down in the months surrounding winter.
